Collection of essays and legal documents
A collection of a number of essays with different writers and scribes. Some parts are devoted to the explanation of different types of marriage and divorce. In between the lines, there are a number of contracts and settlements, including lease, and sale settlements, but most of them are marriage contracts and divorce settlements. Dates of these contracts are mostly in 1840s. The first date is 13 January 1845 and the last date is 31 May 1893.

Marriage Contract, settlements, and divorce agreement between Khadijah Khanum and Mirza Ghulamhusayn, 1876
Marriage contract between Khadijah Khanum, daughter of Ustad Muhammad ‘Ali Mi‘mar, and Mirza Aqa Ghulamhusayn, son of Aqa Nazar. The mahr was forty tumans, from which ten tumans was handed to the bride by the groom (1876). On verso, there are three related settlements dating 1890 and 1899 about their divorce and issues of mahr, alimony, etc.

Divorce settlement of Kanz and Rajabʻali Bayg, 1901
Rajabʻali Bayg, the son of Ghulamhusayn Bayg, divorces his wife, Kanz, the daughter of Ustad Khudadlu, and he gives half of the inherited house of his father, a share of a spring known as Rajabʻali spring, and 10 rials to the wife. It is mentioned that if the husband wants to marry her again, he should first pay her the entire mahr.

Power of attorney to divorce and get back properties, 1907
Power of attorney given to Mirza Zayn al-‘Abidin, son of Haji Muhammad Hasan Tajir [the merchant] from Shiraz, by Haji ‘Ali Tajir Tutun-furush [the tobacco merchant], son of Karbalayi Salim, in order to get his money, property, and home furniture from his wife Khanum [illegible], daughter of ‘Ali ‘Askar Bayg, and triple-divorce her. Dated January 12, 1907

Settlement between Sahib Sultan's mother and Ghulam Riza, 1909
Settlement between the mother of Sahib Sultan, daughter of the late Darvish Qanbar, and Ghulam Riza, son of the late Darvish Husayn, exchanging her mahr and her debts from her husband for seven tumans. Haj Sayyid Riza, legal representative of Sahib Sultan's mother, was fully informed of this settlement.

Regarding the claim of ‘Ali Asghar's divorced wife, 1898
Aqa ‘Ali Asghar transferred all his properties, including his house and carpets, to his daughter, Bibi Khadijah, before his death. Therefore, ‘Ali Asghar’s divorced wife, who is the daughter of ‘Ali ‘Askar, has no rights to his belongings.

Power of attorney for collection of holdings and divorce, 1906
Power of attorney given by Mirza Fazl Allah Nazim al-Zakirin, son of Sayyid Lutf Allah Nazim al-Zakirin, on March 18, 1906, to Mirza Zayn al-‘Abidin, son of Haji Muhammad Hasan from Shiraz, in order to get his money back from his wife Malik Khanum, daughter of Abu al-Fath, and to divorce her (preserving the right of return for the husband). A note on the margin gives power of attorney to divorce Malik Khanum without the above clause.

Marriage contract of Kawkab Sultan, the daughter of Habib, and Mulla Ghulamhusayn, the son of Mulla Nazar ʻAli, with a mahr of: some pieces of land, five local mans of copper worth seven tumans, ten mans of kilims and felt worth 10 tumans, two outfits to be bought for six tumans, a set of bedding worth five tumans, 50 tumans that remain the groom's debt, and two sixths of an inherited house. The husband gave power of attorney for his wife to divorce herself if he does not pay his wife the monthly alimony of 15 qirans for three years (due to travel or absence from home) in the 50 years after...

Letters about property management in Karbala’
Two letters to Haji ‘Abd Allah, the merchant from Yazd: in the first letter (1905), Karbalayi writes about the destruction of the religious tombs in Karbala’ and notes that because of the current situation, there are less pilgrims and no demand for Haji ‘Abd Allah's houses except by the widows. He is asking for permission to rent the houses to these wealthy women for three lira per year; in the second letter (1919) from Najaf, the writer complains about the difficulties in managing the properties of Haji ‘Abd Allah in Karbala’.

Marriage contract of the daughter of Ustad Hasan Saffar and Ustad Ibrahim, 1873
Marriage contract of the daughter of Ustad Hasan Saffar (the son of ʻAli Muhammad Qurban) [her name is not legible] and Ustad Ibrahim, the son of Mulla Khudabakhsh. The mahr is 15 tumans, which includes: an outfit to be bought, five mans of copper, 10 mans of carpet, kilims, and felt. Nine tumans remain the groom's debt. If the groom does not give alimony to the bride in his absence, the bride can divorce herself. Also, the groom is not permitted to take the bride out of the region.
